Endodontics

Model of teeth with dental rootThe two most common reasons a person needs a root canal are:
•  The tooth has been broken and the nerve of the tooth has been affected
•  Decay has affected the nerve of the tooth resulting in infection

If either of these two scenarios happen, the only way to preserve the tooth and save the tooth from having long-term pain and infection is to have a root canal. A root canal replaces the nerve of the tooth with a therapeutic material to make the tooth healthy again and relieve you from any pain caused by the tooth.

Once a root canal is completed, your pain will be alleviated but the tooth will be more fragile. We strongly recommend proceeding with a crown after the root canal to stabilize the tooth for a better long-term prognosis.
